REVIEWS:

"We'll jump to the point here and say that we prefer Buster's UI over CTA Tracker's, hands down."

- Ars Technica

"I just picked up Buster. This is the app I've been wanting _before_ I got my iPhone."

"Buster for the iPhone is a totally awesome app. I highly recommend it if you ride any CTA buses."

- via Twitter

Buster is the quickest, easiest way to find out just how long it's going to take a Chicago bus to get you on your way. Using data provided by the CTA's bus tracker system over your iPhone's EDGE, 3G, or WiFi connection, or your iPod touch's WiFi, Buster lets you know just how long you'll be waiting to board. Want to grab a coffee but not sure if you'll miss your morning bus? Need to decide which routes to take? Don't want to stand in the rain or snow a minute longer than you have to? Buster can help.

It's the perfect app for summer in Chicago- whether you're hitting Pitchfork, Lollapalooza, the Taste, or any of the street fests, Buster can help you get there.

Buster is much quicker and easier than using the CTA bus tracker websiteand we think it looks a little neater, too.

Buster also allows you to store your everyday routes for one-click access, and can help you find the closest stops using your device's GPS or WiFi location feature.

Buster currently works with ALL regularly scheduled bus routes.

Using it almost every day; one of my favorites

:
Can't think of a dollar better spent on anything else in a very long time. The interface is simple and perfect. Two features make the app indispensable: the favorites for your regular stops, and toggling "This Route / All Routes" for a given stop. The number of times I've been able to bypass a crowded bus, knowing that another (likely emptier) one would be along in just a couple of minutes, has made life-with-CTA quite a bit better.

Yes, the CTA's tracker also does this but Buster loads far faster. With a favorite stored, it's two touches from the main iPhone menu to your bus time.

Some reviews complain about the inability to see the bus on a live map. Personally, all I really need to know is how many minutes I've got. If it's five minutes away, I know the route and can pretty much tell where that puts it. To other reviews that say it doesn't show enough bus arrivals per route+stop, my understanding is that this is a function of the CTA data it imports. Following the recent service cuts, the CTA has had to increase the window of time it reports for each line, which seems to have helped see more instances of each route per stop.

If I had complaints or requests: (1) It'd be nice if the app would remember (or offer to remember) the last route & stop you viewed, so that if you leave the app and return within ten minutes, you don't have to navigate back to it again. Especially helpful if you're monitoring a stop that you haven't favorited. (2) An option to toggle between "minutes left" and the actual time it would arrive (saving a little math when you're watching the clock).

Now if only these folks would do an L tracker soon ...

As an occasional CTA rider...

:
I don't understand this application. You can't input start and end points. So unless you know which bus route you want to take, you're lost. The route numbers don't give you an indication of anything. And when you look at the stops along a route they are in alphabetical order instead of driving order. Instead, try using the Maps application that came with the iPhone and input your start and end points, click route, and then change the travel mode to bus. It will tell you which bus number to take and where to get off. Much better.

Great but could be better

:
Very attractive app but it could use persitant state, meaning if you quit the app and go back to it, it shows the same screen you left off on. Also, showing the bus number in addition to estimated arrival time and the ability to scroll to show more than just the next three buses would be handy.
